Suspected Cable Thief Electricuted At Karu Transformer Site

A suspected electricity cable vandal, said to be a vulcaniser, was electrocuted at a transformer close to the NIA Quarters on Kalabari Road, Karu, Abuja.
City News gathered that the middle-aged man, who was identified as Innocent Ajayi, climbed the transformer during a power outage to cut cables at about 4:00am on Wednesday morning.
Ahmed Mohammed, a resident of the area said just as he was about to vandalise the transformer, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) restored power and he was electrocuted.
He said the deceased was released from prison having spent time for a similar offence.
He explained that AEDC officials from a nearby office, with assistance from the fire service, came and brought down the charred corpse which was hunging on the electric pole.
“AEDC officials and firefighters accompanied by policemen from the Karu division brought down the corpse from the pole. It was a horrible sight,” he said.
The FCT police command’s spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, confirmed the incident saying the man died while attempting to vandalise electric cables.
